John Proctor: Hero or Stooge

I think John Proctor is a straight up stooge. All though he may seem like he’s all for himself and his wife it’s more to that. There are a few characters in the play that use and fool him; I feel like two of them are his own wife Elizabeth and then there’s Abigail Williams.
First off, yes I know men are supposed to want to please their wives, but couldn’t there be sometimes when she takes advantage of that? I think Elizabeth probably was practicing some sort of witch craft… maybe. And so I feel like John was used by her when she got arrested because he went down to the court house and testified during the hearing etc. even though she gave him cold shoulders and kept throwing things of the past back into his face.
Then there’s the story with Abigail, of course we all know she wants him again. She’ll go to any lengths to get what she wants. Therefore Proctor was also used by her because since he had an affair with her and different people were being accused like his wife, he couldn’t accuse her because she would tell everyone that they had had an affair. So he had to be silent about that because she held the strings on the box of that secret.
So John Proctor IS a stooge.

There Goes The Neighborhood

I'm sure we all know of the times when Christopher Columbus "claimed" he discovered America which he thought was India. I'm sure we all know about the colonial times, thirteen colonies, pilgrimage etc. etc. But anyways has anyone ever thought to think about how they natives felt as their land was being taken over by foreigners? Well now we can take the time to consider that...
Imagine yourself in the shoes of the natives. Here you are sculpting a clay figurine or working on building a new teepee and a grand ship pulls up on the coast of the land. You're frightened because these are people unknown to the land, they have skin pure as snow and are covered from head to toe. They own things that you've never seen before and possess a tongue that is strange. They've come to takeover, you are sure of it. But you wonder if your people will be able to stop them because they seem like people of peace and kindness because they bring little trinkets from their homeland. You are wiser than that...
In modern day communities when people of different backgrounds i.e. race, lifestyle, culture, and religion move within the same area there may or may not be conflicts. People can choose to either stick with their own people or associate with people that are different. However, some may feel their way of life is the right way or the god who they believe in is the highest god, etc and that might cause rivalry between the two. In addition, it could also introduce and expose narrow-minded people to new things, maybe led to conversion of religious beliefs and other things. It just all depends on the mindsets of the kinds of people living within that area.
