Janie

Janie of Zora Neale Hurston's "Their Eyes Were Watching God" can be described in many ways because of how she adjusts to different situations within the story. When her grandmother firsts tells her to marry Logan Killicks of course she does not want to because for one she is young and doesn't even love him; although after their marriage she honestly hopes that somehow she'll fall in love with him. Then when she runs off and marries Joe Starks, with his sweet-talking character and he has money; he controls her and she submits, hiding her emotions within the walls of her mind. I feel like Janie always allowed herself to be in the positions that she's in therefore she suffers like a miserable mouse with no voice. Until Joe dies and she meets and later on marries the charming Tea Cake, although she's insecure and worried sometimes, with him she has finally found happiness she had been looking for...but how long will it last before Tea Cake runs away with everything she has like people believe will happen.
Yes Janie Woods converts to the way Tea Cake lives but this time it isn't so much as submission, but just the way she wants to have it. I admire her for that and I feel like she is strong because of her past relationships.
